Half of All Children With Autism Wander and Bolt from Safe Places, Study Shows
ScienceDaily — The Interactive Autism Network (IAN) reveals the preliminary results of the first major survey on wandering and elopement among individuals with autism spectrum disorders (ASD), and announces the launch of a new research survey on the association between pregnancy factors and ASD. The wandering and elopement survey found that approximately half of parents of children with autism report that their child elopes, with the behavior peaking at age four. Among these families, nearly 50% say that their child went missing long enough to cause significant concern about safety.

The National Autism Association, through a generous grant from the American Legion Child Welfare Foundation, is pleased to provide the Big Red Safety Box for caregivers as a means to educate, raise awareness and share simple tools that may assist in preventing, and responding to, wandering-related incidents in the ASD community.

THE LARGEST CONFERENCE OF ITS TYPE IN THE USA!
THURSDAY, MAY 26, 2011 – BUFFALO, NEW YORK

representatives, and local officials to explore current issues in the field. The day will include
speakers, workshops, vendor exhibits, and provide information on the many services available to
people with developmental disabilities living in the Western New York community.
This year’s
human services and community issues, is the author of six books that have won praises and
awards for their thoughtful approach to culture and community.
The conference will
participation, contribution and involvement of developmentally disabled people in the Western
New York community and society overall.
Additionally, there will be a Parents Area where parents can talk to experts from local agencies
and have their questions answered. Other special events include an Art Gallery featuring local
artists, an Internet Café and various performers throughout the day.

I have started a team (Buffalo Herd) for the 2011 Walk Now for Autism Speaks in Rochester.
I am recruiting members to walk & raise money.
The walk is on Sept. 24, 2011, 12:30 p.m. registration, 1.5 mile walk starts at 2:00 p.m.
This is a family fun event to raise money for research.

Autism Insurance Reform Bill in NY to be voted on Monday April 11, 2011
Below is an e-mail I recieved from "Autism Speaks" The Autism Health Insurance refom bill for NY State will be voted upon on Monday, April 11. We need your help!!!! And we're off! We just found out that Senate Bill 4005, the autism insurance reform bill sponsored by Senator Charles Fuschillo, Jr., will be voted upon in the Senate Insurance Committee on Monday, April 11, 2011. We need your help today and over the weekend to contact all of the members of the Senate Insurance Committee below and leave a brief message that you would like them to vote in favor of the bill.
